You are here looking from the War, State, and Navy Building. On the left of the building with the round portico is the White House in which the President lives. It is the White House grounds that occupy the center of the scene. Beyond the White House is the United States Treasury Building with the Greek porticoes. At the farther end of Pennsylvania Avenue is the United States Capitol Building. The War, State, and Navy Building house these three departments of our Government. Each is presided over by a special secretary. The State Department is ruled by the Secretary of State. It is he who attends to our relations with foreign nations. He is the head of all of the many men appointed to represent the United States in foreign countries. In case of the death or disability of the President and the Vice President, the Secretary of State be-

comes the President of the United States. The War and Navy departments look after our army and navy, respectively. In other words, these two departments have charge of the defence of our nation. Great supplies of clothing food, guns, and ammunition must be looked after for the soldiers. Forts and fortifications must be built at many places. These things the Department of War attends to. New vessels must be built, and must be properly manned with seamen. Target and fleet practice must be given from time to time. All of these things are in the province of the Department of War. In the Treasury Building the Secretary of Treasury has his office. This is the center of our Government's finance. In the vaults are stored great amounts of gold and silver. Name the members of the President's Cabinet.
